 About Me |
Guess one could describe my life as one that has been "taken globally". I was born in Saigon (now known as Ho Chi Minh City), Viet Nam a few years after the country's war ended. Because they wanted to offer me a better, politically free life, my parents fled the country by boat when I was only an infant. The result of this traumatic journey led us to a Hong Kong refugee camp. From there, we were sponsored by a group of caring families in Canada where we began our new life.
Given the context of my life, I have been searching for ways to reconcile all the different worlds of which I am part. Being Vietnamese, being Canadian and now being "adopted" British...never feeling fully one or the other. It's been so encouraging to meet more and more people with this similar inter-cultural experience of being "third world" people. Part of two or more cultures that culminates into a third.
If I were to describe myself in a metaphor, I'd choose a bridge. I love connecting with people and places of all sorts and have had the privilege of doing so on my exciting life journey. The adventure is far from over...!
