 About Me |
Hi everyone! I am the Office Manager at TakingITGlobal. Having just graduated and completed my honours degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Commerce from McMaster University, I am very excited to start my career in the NGO/non-profit field. I have always been interested in traveling with purpose and I was lucky enough to study abroad during my third year of university in England. My exchange to England was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was able to form friendships with people hailing from all over the world. I also traveled around Europe which was amazing!
My experience abroad definitely helped me realize how important cultural understanding is and the great learning experience traveling with purpose (studying abroad/internships/volunteering etc) can offer. You learn about yourself, others and the world around you. During my time at university I acted as the Exchange Program Assistant, a job that I loved--partly because I got to talk about my exchange experience all day but mostly because I had the opportunity to promote a program that teaches cultural appreciation and understanding. It also helps people realize just how interconnected we all are and how we should help one another, even if we are oceans apart. That knowledge is what brought me to TakingITGlobal. I do believe that youth need to take an active role to protect our world by looking out for each other and the environment. That is probably why I think that the "Professional Opportunities" (Under Browse Resources) is such a great tool for young people. I also find the "Understanding Issues" section quite interesting and informative.
In the future I would like to stay involved with international NGOs who focus on facilitating academic exchanges and cultural understanding, environmental issues and humanitarian efforts.
