Hola! Aloha! My name is Mariana Gonzalez, or Mari if you prefer. I'm 20 years old, a college junior, my major is International Relations @ the ITESM (Tec de Monterrey) Mexico City Campus...currently on exchange at Lancaster University in the UK!!!! And I have to say that I really love my major, my teachers, my classmates, and everything that comes with it.
International Relations have always been of a major interest to me. I remember being 4 maybe 5 years old and watching Desert Storm on CNN, or later on watching kids my age die og hunger in Somalia, or being killed in the former Yugoslavia. I have to admit that those three events marked me in one way or another. I really couldn't understand why people did taht to each other, to their kids, their future. And even though in later years I wanted to study Medicine or Biology, I always planned that it would be to help the community. It was until my junior year in High School that I talked to a friend of my mom working @ the FAO, who told me that I should study I.R. and after looking it up, seeing college plans, and subjects that it just seemed like the right hting to do.
I'm pretty much your average day dreamer who believes that peace can be accomplished through understanding. And that a violent solution is the most irrational solution to a violent conflict. The other day as I attended a congress on the Millenium development goals here in Mexico, somebody said that we couldn't change the future, our turn as over and it was time for the new generations. I really don't think so, I think we still can, and yeas it is important to teach the new generations, to help make a better world, but we still can, and I truly believe we will.
My interests are international conflict resolution, in a peaceful manner of course, Children's rights during armed conflict, peace education, and terrorism prevention and resolution.
I love to read, write (I'm an offical Kiwibox journalist...whipee!), listen to music, watch movies, hang out with my pals, swim 'n surf and talk to people from around the world.
I love my country, Mexico and my hometown Texcoco, but also love my second country (one way or another) the US (hey politicians aside) and especially my second hometown Honolulu.
