About Me |
The following Namibian proverb perhaps best summarizes my personal motto in life: "If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquitoe." It might be a cliche, but I truly believe in the ability of every individual to make a positive and lasting contribution to the betterment of the world. I am excited to be part of the TIG Community, and meet such inspiring youth leaders who are committed to effecting positive change in their respective parts of the world and beyond!
Just a few words about myself. I completed my Bachelor's in International Relations and French Literature at the University of Victoria, Canada and at Sciences Po Paris. Upon graduating, I was excited to leave the academic realm behind for a few years and gain some hands-on international work experience. I obtained a position at the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education, a joint initiative between the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Universities UK, and during two years researched developments within international higher education. My time at the Observatory strengthened my belief in the fundamental importance of education for all, and prompted my decision to pursue post-graduate studies in development and international cooperation at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland (the place that I currently call 'home').
Alongside my studies, I have recently launched the first Earth Charter Youth Group in Finland and worked at the Earth Charter International headquarters in Costa Rica. I am also the North America Representative of the Earth Charter Youth Initiative. As part of the Initiative, we have recently launched the Earth Charter Oneness Book Project. Until August 15th 2008, we will be gathering personal stories and photos on the theme of experiencing oneness or deep connection in people's lives. Submissions will be selected from every region of the world, and published in a book to be released internationally in 2009. Please Refer to www.earthcharterinaction.org/publication for further details, and share with us your voice, your images, and your inspiration!
More generally, I am passionate about development issues, particularly education, children and youth, religion and spirituality, and environmental sustainability. If you have similar interests, or would simply like to share thoughts and ideas, please do get in touch- I would love to hear from you!
