About Me

Youth AIDS Filipinas Alliance (YAFA) was conceptualized during the GIPA to MIPA Effective Leadership Values for Winning Performance and Partnership Seminar Workshop hosted by Pinoy Plus Association (PPA) on the 8th of March 2008 at Kimberly Hotel in Manila. It was through the initiative of a youth positive and Volunteer of Positive Action Foundation Philippines, Inc. (PAFPI), Mr. Alex (not a real name), who was a participant to the seminar that YAFA was given its name.

During the organization’s presentations, which include the PPA, PAFPI, Babae Plus, ALAGAD Mindanao, Inc., and EMPOWER of Iloilo, it was realized that there is no group/organization that caters the unique needs of the Filipino youth positive. This brought to the formation of YAFA, which will serve as a care and support group for youth positive and will take the lead in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS among the youth sector of the country.

YAFA founders, officers and members believe in the greater and meaningful involvement of young people living with HIV (GIPA/MIPA) in the national response to effective and efficient HIV/AIDS youth programs and projects. Its carries the principle, “Nothing About Us Without Us. Let the voices of Filipino Youth be heard in the Fight Against AIDS!” as it embraces the belief in the significant roles of youth involvement in shaping the countries future on HIV/AIDS. It is a group which is independent in terms of decision makings and functions and most of its strengths and inspirations come from the Filipino youth living with HIV who aim to live normally in a supportive and youth-friendly community.

VISION: A unified and sustained group of Filipino youth, both infected and uninfected of HIV, whose members are champions, effective and efficient leaders and advocates in HIV/AIDS interventions.

MISSION: To provide comprehensive and quality care and support to the unique needs of Filipino youth living with HIV and to take the lead in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS among the youth in all levels of the society.
