 About Me |
My name is Eriel Deranger and I am the National Aboriginal Youth Engagement Coordinator for Taking It Global and the Creating Local Connections Canada project (CLC Canada) (http://projects.takingitglobal.org/clccanada).
I belong to the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation of Northern Alberta. Prior to working with TakingITGlobal as the Aboriginal Youth Engagement Coordinator for CLC Canada, I was the Advertising and Marketing Manager for Shout Magazine and a Treaty Land Entitlement and Specific Land Claims Researcher for FSIN. I have worked extensively with various youth and Aboriginal organizations on grass roots community issues. This has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge of community resources and a complex understanding of working across cultures to promote dialogue and create change necessary for the positions as Project Coordinator for Canadian Aboriginal Connections portal.
CLC Canada is an integrated three-year program (2006-2009) with a goal of inspiring, informing, and involving youth as engaged participants in Canadian society through: awareness and access, collaboration and communication, and capacity building initiatives.
The goals of the CLC Canada program are:
• To raise awareness and provide access to youth opportunities and resources
• To connect and encourage collaboration between youth/youth initiatives
• To strengthen the capacity of youth/youth initiatives in Canada
As the Aboriginal coordinator I am responsible for the development & content of the Aboriginal portal on the TIG site. (http://canada.takingitglobal.org/aboriginal). The content of this page will include relevant stats and information, featured events, programs, organizations, art, writing, projects, and profiles of outstanding Aboriginal role models of Canada and much more. In addition to the development of the portal, I will be conducting tutorials on TIG and all component of the site, conducting open forums across the country, facilitating workshops as needed and connecting youth and youth organizations via the TIG site. My main goal is to get more Aboriginal youth inspired, informed and involved.
