A Snapshot of the Big Picture
Dreams fades, ambition is eternal. Coming to terms with the vicissitudes of everyday life in one of the poorest, if not the poorest continent in the world has not being easy! Born into family of six, the last of four children- two boys and two girls. I have grown from an ephemeral acquaintanceship with childhood and teenage-hood into a young adventurous adult. I have been able to open a new chapter in the history of a journey in time, while closing that of carefree, playfulness and recklessness.
It has been an ambivalent experience since I made my first scream a score ago. I have come to appreciate the immediate society around me, and the environment I have found as an aboard. An environment where more than 70% of the populace live below the poverty line; the consequence of which has ramified beyond the ambit of space and time. A consequence I have experienced firsthand a thousand and one times.
Coming from a background in the Sciences at High School, I opted for a career in Medicine, in my quest to make a difference in the lives of people. Currently studying towards a Degree in Medicine & Surgery at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; I now know the dream takes not only time but great efforts to live up to.
At the same time I spend my little or no time outside of study to fulfill my responsibility as Partnerships Officer of the International Young Professionals Foundation: while serving Global Youth ACTION Network and the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations in other capacities. These in its own have given me a broader scope of what it really entails to live up to a dream: to be in a class of my own and take charge of my own odyssey through life. Not to become a victim of circumstances but the champion of it!
The power of knowledge so much intrigues me that it has become an unquenchable quest to keep learning. Knowledge is simply power. It closes the door of ignorance and darkness, and opens the gate of opportunities and greatness. Many will say why do you need to learn all these, of what use? May I say this, the more you know, the less you feel and appreciate you know.
By the end of this year, I should be able to include Spanish as one of my spoken and written languages; and move ahead with French and Portuguese in the upcoming years. All of which have promised to be an invaluable asset.
As I move ahead in my odyssey, I have set an eye on the amazing world of Public Health and International Medicine. The world of which I hope to start exploring very soon while I keep going my passion for Sustainable Development and Technology. A passion I know will take me places. At the moment, this passion has taken me to a new height. One I never imagined would come so soon.
Let see how far and well I go in the nearest future! I know my dreams would come to being with the help of the one who strengthens me.
