About Me

The Project
So…Do you have faith in Europe? Do the people around you? Does trust in a God make it easier to have trust in Barroso, the European Commission or the other European Leaders and Institutions? What do you think about ‘Faith in Europe’? That’s what we want to know!
‘Faith in Europe’ is a youth-based project aiming to explore the confidence and trust that people of Europe, both young and old, have in the European Institutions and the European Union (EU) in general. In addition, to explore whether religious faith has an affect on people’s ‘Faith in Europe’, for example if it makes them more or less confidence about the ability of the EU to meet its stated goals.
This project comes at a vital time when confidence in the EU seems at an all time low, with statistics that up to 70% of people in some European states want to immediately withdraw from the Union. In addition to the decisions needed to be made about the future of the European Constitution and European expansion.

Others argue that the number of people actively practicing a religious faith in Europe is also declining, with approximately just 3% of Britains attending Church, 8% of Dutch people and around 4 out of 60 million French people baptised. Yet at the same time new religions are beginning to rise in number in Europe, with more practicsing Muslims then ever before in history, the advent of Scientology and many many more new faiths.

Given the changing situation in both Europe, and Religious Faith, now is the time to explore the relationship between the two and think about the future of Faith in Europe!
The overall outcome of this project is to produce a book evaluating the level of faith in Europe. The information for this book will be obtained through the distribution and answering of a questionnaire (click here), by both Peace Child and its partner organisations throughout the 25 member states of the European Union.
This questionnaire has three functions: to gather statistical information, to build connections between people, both through the Faith in Europe partner network and the use of street questionnaires, and finally to allow for analysis on the subject of faith in Europe.

In addition to the statistical data collected Peace Child is interested in stimulating creative thinking about Faith in Europe, and thus hopes to receive artwork and poetry from all over Europe to pictify the state of European’s ‘Faith in Europe’.
The process will be completed by a meeting of young representatives from all EU member states, to discuss the findings, design the book, ‘Faith in Europe’, and organise Europe wide ‘Faith in Europe’ Day.
