About Me   About Me
David Velázquez Seiferheld was born on january 1st, 1971. He's interested in classical, jazz, bossa nova and latin music, but he loves the paraguayan polka and the folklore of his country. He also loves reading specially ancient and modern philosophy, on subjects as morals, ethics and social and political philosophy. He likes latin american literature, specially the so called "magic realism". He practices boxing in is free time, and spents much of his time playing with his two boys, Ezequiel and Isaiah, 7 and 3 years-old. He works every day thinking in their welfare, and in a better future for them (and, of course, for the rest of the children and young people of the world...)

During is youth, he actively acted against the dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner. His family was persecuted because of their ideas against the regime, and also him. He was the first President of the Student's Council of Cristo Rey's High School, in 1988, after being representative of their classmates from the 1st to the last year of studies. David Velázquez and the members of the Student's Council faught fiercely for the ideas of freedom and social justice, and many time their houses were surrounded by the police.

In the University, David Velázquez Seiferheld studied philosophy. He was elected, in 1992, President of the Catholic University Student's Federation, after a career wich included the General Secretariat of the Philosophy and Human Sciences Faculty of the Catholic University.

In 1992, he was nominated as Executive Director of the Christian Entrepreneurs Association, position which he left in 1994 to teach and to work in social affairs. In 1995, was nominated as Director of Program and Projects of the Viceministry for Youth Affairs of Paraguay. He worked there until 1998. In 1998, the President of the Supreme Court of Justice required his services to work as Chief of Staff. In 1999, he left the position and was designated as Researcher of the Supreme Court of Justice.

As a reasercher, he led an Inquiry on Indigenous People Human Rights in Independent Paraguay (1811 - 2003). Is the most importat book in that subject. Includes all the acts, and laws referring to Indian People of Paraguayan Independent period. The results of this research are being used now by David Velázquez as a consultant of the Program for Intercultural and Multilingual Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

He also published another 8 books, one of them about Globalisation and Solidarity (2001), and several books for high school education in the fields of Anthropology, Sociology, Politics, Philosophy.

He teaches at some universities subjects like: Ethics, Philosophy, Anthropology, Strategic Planning and Projects.

Since 2002, he holds the position of Youth, Children and Sports Affairs Director, in the Municipality of Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay. The major of the city was his the first Viceminister of Youth Affairs and David Velázquez Seiferheld was his Program and Projects Director.

David Velázquez Seiferheld also founded with Francisco Gimenez "Educación: una apuesta al futuro" (Education: a choice for the future) the first radio program in the paraguay history entirely dedicated to sensibilise to the people about the importance of the Education in Development. With the program, he travelled thru all the country, interviewing to all the responsibles and authorities of the Education in Paraguay.

David Velázquez Seiferheld and his team in the municipality are working very hard in Employment, Non formal Education (with the first program of human resources training in youth affairs), Peacebuilding, and Human Rights.

With his job, which was recognised for many peoples, he was chosen to be Member of the International Consultant team of the Project "Human Right and Local Government", developed by the Internacional Council on Human Right Policies, an NGO based on Switzerland.

Finally, David Velázquez is actively involved and commited with the welfare of young people and children of his city and his country. That's why he is oftenly required to be part of many processes of selection of projects financed by international cooperation agencies.
