 About Me |
Farrell graduated from Middlebury College in the spring of 2004 with a BA in neuroscience and sociology. She first became interested in international health and policy during a trip to Romania in the winter of 2003 where she traveled to several hospitals and orphanages to study the effects of institutionalization on early neuropsycological development as part of a UN supported organization called Global Volunteers. Farrell returned to Romania in the summer of 2003 as an intern for the Humana Foundation’s Romanian Assistance project to study the effects of healthcare reform on the current medical crisis.
These experiences inspired her to participate in other programs around the globe to promote healthcare reform and social change. She traveled to India to work for a national organization called Mobile Creche, which aims to provide healthcare and education for children of migrant workers living in the slums of Delhi, Calcutta, and Mumbai; as well as other countries in europe, including Austria, Hungary, France, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic. She has also participated in efforts within the United States to raise money and awareness for people living with HIV/AIDS through AIDSRide, for which she biked 350 miles and raised over $10,000.
Farrell recently joins the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS as an intern. She looks forward to learning more about HIV/AIDS issues affecting young people, as well as political advocacy and capacity building.
