About Me |
George Argwing's Kasera is currently the youth representative in the Commonwealth Disabled People's Forum's steering committee, formed in march 2008 in the UK and is also the Disability & HIV/AIDS Program Manager at Kenya Disabled Action Network KEDAN. He is 27 years old; a holder of Higher diploma in Community Development and Social studies, he also holds a diploma in computer engineering. He has also received a number of trainings in peer education and counseling in Disability issues in relation to HIV/AIDS.
George was diagnosed with polio when he was only two years old;now he is physically disabled and very proud of being just that.
Since 2003, George has worked with young people with disabilities and youth friendly disabled peoples organizations in Kenya, Uganda, Sweden and in the UK; He has been involved in different Disability & HIV/AIDS activities; his diverse experiences include: Establishment of Behaviour Change Programs targeting young people with disability in Kibera slums.
Currently he works for Kenya Disabled Action Network (KEDAN), as the Disability & HIV/AIDS Program Manager, a position he has held for three years now.
KEDAN was founded in 2003 and supports young disabled people in their efforts toward independence. KEDAN encourages young people with disabilities to make their own informed choices and works to open doors in the community to full participation and access for youth with disabilities. KEDAN is a youth initiative formed and run by youth with disabilities in Kenya.
George believes that, if youth with disabilities are empowered, they can turn around the world and be able to contribute positively towards community development.
