About Me |
Hassan Nasir got involved in development work firstly when he was a doing his intermediate at a private college in Karachi, Pakistan. Taking a goal to help his classmates and juniors, who either could not afford to pay for their books and studies or were not willing to study at all due to so many reasons, he along with two of his college teachers started a free tuition and counseling center at his college. The three of them volunteered to provide extra coaching classes to students of area who either could not afford their education or had no purpose of studying, after counseling them to get an education for life.
Later on his volunteering work transformed his personality completely and he changed his personal goal of becoming a chartered accountant and he entered into development sector by starting to work as Community Mobilizer, with Indus Resource Center, in a literacy project for youth and adults in his native town in interior of Sindh, Pakistan. Ever since then, he has largely remained involved in development initiatives undertaken to address youth issues, including HIV/AIDS.
Currently, he is working as Program Officer, Literacy, Governance and Political Participation with Cavish Development Foundation, a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization, based at Islamabad Pakistan. Before that he worked with Indus Resource Center (IRC) in different capacities. With IRC, in partnership with government, he implemented three literacy projects for youth and adults. He designed, implemented and managed these literacy projects run in 15 union councils of district Khairpur, Sindh. Through these projects, over 7500 non-literate youth, most females, were made literate and were given awareness on importance health and hygiene, HIV/AIDS, Reproductive Health and social responsibilities.
With Indus Resource Center, one his especial projects was raising awareness on Reproductive Health, Mother and Child health care and HIV/AIDS through interactive theater. In this project he worked Indus Theater Group, a local theater group that uses interactive theater for development, and developed six theater pieces on the above themes. These themes were presented before communities of almost 30 villages. Youth and adults were main target of these projects.
In the meanwhile Hassan has continued his volunteering work by translating Community empowerment website (www.scn.org/cmp) which provides training material training low-income communities, in Sindhi.
He now has experience and expertise in managing, developing, implementing and evaluating development projects. He has successfully completed ASPBAE Basic Leadership Development Course, held at Indonesia besides completing two four week e-courses, offered by Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) USA, in Project Management and Grants Writing (Project Proposal Writing) and Fund raising. Currently, he is doing a short course in Development and Democratization from The Peace University Romania. He can write persuasive project proposals and concept notes. He has a natural flare in designing, developing and writing publications of all sorts i.e. brochures, professional reports, pamphlets/flyers etc. He is a trainer in Adult Literacy, English, Health and Hygiene Education for children and adults and Community Mobilization.
