About Me |
Am student at Egerton University-kenya, taking a Bsc in Environmental Science.Am involved in several activities at club levels .For instance am a member of Red Cross-Egerton Chapter, in which we join the communities around egerton university in performing communal activities jointly, the latest being the "clean-up the world campaign"
Am a member and official of the Youth Wildlife and Environmental Movement(YWEM)-egerton chapter. This is the club i have full interest in.it is directly in-line with my course of study. Its main mandate is to mobilise the youths to participate in conserving the environment. At the same time it recognizes that for effective conservation to be sustained,we must consider the three pillars of conservation, namely, 1)ecology 2)economic and 3)societal. Therefore, as a club we normally carry out activities in line with the above three pillars. For instance,
1)On 21st-26th may 2007 we participated in the "Environmental Conservation week" whose theme was "More Trees, Better Climate, and Improved Livelihoods".At that time i was a class representative to the club.We planted over 5000 tree seedlings during that week. The point in mind was that if every kenyan planted a tree, there would be better climate and improved livelihoods.
2)On 16th oct 2007 we participated in the U.N World Food Day walk. The climax was at the Child Development Centre in Njoro which is run by the African Inland Church-Njoro.The children in this centre, most of them are orphans. However, some have parents but are too poor to provide them with the basic needs. So they come to the centre every weekend to be given food, but they stay with their parents or guardians at home.As a club we donated food stuffs worth Ksh. 8,200.As usual,we marked the occasion by planting 10tree seedlings(the compound is small).
