About Me   About Me
I am a young man of 23yrs of age. I am currently involved with civil society organisations in Tanzania, i am a director of the Tanzania Youth Coalition, which is a union of youth NGOs in the country. This coalition is also a member of the Tanzanian Rio+10 NGO coalition which deals with sustainable development. Since 1996-2000, I have been participating on a number of student’s environmental activities and HIV/AIDS awareness through debate competitions, dialogues and quizzes. In 1999, I became the first winner for BP English oral fluency competition for the Eastern zone secondary schools (Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and coastal region). In 2000 I became the 2nd winner for quiz competition at the book festival. In 2000 I was able to organize the interschool debate competition that reflected both academic and environmental issues.

In 2000, I was selected by the Ministry of Education and Culture to represent the youth students in the government delegation attending the World Conference on Climate Change of the UNFCCC in The Hague the Netherlands. At the youth conference attended by 108 young people from all over the world we were able to establish the World Youth Organization on Climate Change (WYOCC) of which I am country and southern region representative.

In 2001, I was selected to be the youth artist of the Millennium by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
In the same year I was successful selected by the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning of the Royal Netherlands government to participate to the resumed world conference on climate change of the UNFCCC in Bonn Germany. Upon return to Tanzania I was able to organize the Dar es Salaam youth conference on climate change in collaboration with Vice-presidents office.

The year 2002 started by me getting involved in the Rio+10 process and the establishment of the Tanzania Youth Coalition (TYC). In March 2002, I was elected by the founding members of the TYC to be the director of the coalition. I was able to attend the East African Youth Coalition (EAYC) workshop and elected to be one of the Co-chairs at the sub-regional level.

In March 2002 I was selected to attend the Global youth forum (GYF) organized by UNEP in Denmark, this event marked the final youth preparations on WSSD at the global level. From the GYF I was elected to be the African representative to the Global youth coalition on sustainable development (GYCSD). After that, I was given the chance to present the WSSD youth preparation process from the sub-regional and regional level at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) youth public forum. I have had an opportunity to make a presentation at the University of Dar es Salaam during the University Environment Day 2002

In May 2002 I was selected to attend the African youth forum in Dakar Senegal organized by the Senegalese government in collaboration with the United Nations Environmental programme (UNEP). As an East African Youth Coalition representative, I was also able to attend the Rio+10 sub-regional steering committee meeting held in Kampala Uganda representing the same.

From June 2002 I was selected to be a member of the Rio+10 youth preparations taskforce, which was responsible for the youth preparations at the national level. With the Tanzania Youth Coalition I was able to organize the Young Professionals conference, The East African Youth Exchange meeting and the capacity building meetings for the facilitators of the WSSD youth preparations. I was also the main facilitator for Sustainable Development and the Rio+10 history, during the 2002 National Youth Conference (NYC). I was given the honor to chair the gender and sustainable development conference organized by the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA). I have been invited twice to be a resource person and facilitator on Poverty eradication and sustainable development for children and young people’s dialogues organized by UNICEF.

After the WSSD I was invited to attend the post review and evaluation workshop for the Johannesburg summit in Morogoro, the workshop that gathered all the Rio+10 partners in Tanzania. At the Sub-regional level I was also one of the delegates representing the Rio+10 NGO coalition from Tanzania to the Post Johannesburg review and evaluation at the sub-regional level in Nairobi Kenya.

As the Rio+10 project was coming to an end therefore the East African NGO coalition had to establish a taskforce so as to anticipate the future of this coalition at the East African level, successfully I was nominated by the Tanzania Rio+10 NGO coalition to be part of this taskforce, in this taskforce I am the youngest member both age-wise and academic-wise, this is challenge to me that I can work with all the age groups, the youth, the old age but hence it’s a challenge for me to improve intensively and extensively in-terms of knowledge.

The year 2003 started by getting selected to attend the 2003 UNEP global youth retreat (GYR) along with the 22nd UNEP governing council, the global environmental minister’s forum and the global civil society forum. At the global civil society forum, I had to represent the Rio+10 NGO coalition in Tanzania, as there was none from Tanzania. I was also elected to represent the African caucus to the meeting with His Excellence President of Senegal Professor Abdulae Wade. Amongst other issues discussed, NEPAD was also a key subject as H.E. President Prof. Wade is a vice-president of the NEPAD steering committee.

During the 2003 UNEP Global Youth Retreat (GYR), I was also selected to be one of the interim UNEP associate youth advisors who comprise the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). As a UNEP youth associate advisor I am able to advise UNEP on issues concerning the youth and also gives me the chance to communicate with other UN agencies on how to improve the situation of the youth at all aspects of human life. August 2003 in Russia, I was elected by majority vote to be the full UNEP Associate Advisor for Africa region and the Environmental Youth Envoy for the UNEP Executive Director (UN Under-Secretary General). Since the year 2002, I have been involved and participated in the Poverty Reduction Process, including the Poverty Policy Weeks (PPW’s), in the 2002 PPW I was the only young person attending. The 2003 PPW I spearheaded the PRS youth process with TYC and was able to organize youth sensitization forums for young people from youth NGOs, Dar es Salaam primary and Secondary schools and youth from all higher learning institutions located in Dar and Morogoro regions, for the first time youth concerns came into a wider attention at the PPW arena. Into that process I was the main youth resource person and facilitator for Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS). In late January 2004, I was requested by UNICEF to be a resource person and facilitator for “PRS and youth engagement” during the National Youth Workshop to review the National Youth Policy of (1996) in Morogoro.

In March-April 2004 was able to devise a methodology for the youth PRS consultations to be funded by UNICEF. As a co-ordinator of the youth consultation team that I formed and the team itself, the PRS youth consultation was done successful covering 1900 young people out of 2700 with limited resources and finally the report was submitted to UNICEF and VPO-DPE.

In the same course, March-April 2004 I was selected by SF 2000 and the Council of Europe to participate in the study session on “Civil society and youth work: Challenge and Opportunities in the globalizing world” in Strasbourg France. With this study session I have been able to join the global network of youth resource persons, trainers and facilitators.

I was able to make an Official European tour to seek for possible partnership possibilities with the civil society organizations from the North with the TYC. This tour resulted to a joint international youth project that is being run by TYC and Natur Og Ungdom a Danish youth NGO together with The Danish National Youth Council (DUF) being funded by the Danish Foreign Ministry. Also was able to establish an internship exchange programme with German NGOs and Universities, with this programme young Europeans are now, and will be able to came and volunteer in the youth work in Tanzania.

In June 2004 I was able to devise a methodology to collect the youth inputs to the first draft of the new government Poverty reduction Strategy 2005-2009. With this methodology under my supervision, that was later funded by UNICEF and the Vice President Office division of Poverty Eradication from 16th to 18th September 2004, a youth consultation was possible and hence collect more than 150 young people from Dar es Salaam, Coast and Morogoro were able to review this government strategy and hence coming up with youth inputs and a plan of youth engagement into a process.

I was invited by Dr. Zudeida Tumbo Masabo the Senior Supervisor of the evaluation team doing the evaluation of URT/UNICEF Mid-term review on children and youth participation, and participated in the training of the young consultants as a guest trainer on research methodologies whereby I trained the young consultants on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and Participatory Learning and Action for Community Development (PLA-CD).
