 About Me |
Jennifer Cottes is from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended the University of Winnipeg where she obtained a BA in International Development Studies and a minor in Economics. She spent her final semester at Kyiv-Mohyl Academy Ukraine learning the Ukrainian language and history. Jennifer is an alumni intern with the International Institute for Sustainable Development , through a Canadian Youth Employment Strategy program called Young Canadian Leaders for a Sustainable Future (YCLSF). Through the internship program Jennifer was placed with the Education Development Center , in Boston, MA. There, she worked with the Youth Employment Summit (YES2002) , launching its campaign in Alexandria, Egypt, September 7 - 11, 2002. As the Web Strategist, she managed the YES web site, and led the development of the Global Knowledge Resource for Youth Employment . Jennifer then returned to Winnipeg to coordinate and develop Digital Partners Youth.
Currently, Jennifer is working at Industry Canada with NetCorps Canada International and the Office of International Partnerships (OIP). Under Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy, NetCorps works with a coalition of the Canadian-based international NGOs to send interns and volunteers to developing countries to help organizations build their capacity in information and communication technologies (ICTs). NetCorps is a coalition member of the Youth Creating Digitial Opportunities Network. For more information on NetCorps please visit: http://www.netcorps-cyberjeunes.org. OIP links foreign governments, agencies and companies with Canadian companies, organizations and entrepreneurs who develop and apply information and communications technologies. OIP also helps Canadian organizations and individuals identify opportunities for partnerships and alliances in global markets.
Jennifer had taken a keen interest in information and communication technologies for development through her involvement with YCDO. She was part of the original team of coordinators back in January 2002, and continues her commitment through NetCorps and OIP.
