NICKOLAI KIPP PARKER

Nickolai Parker is the Consultant for the International Day of Peace for the United Nations Department of Political Affairs and Department of Public Information. The Day of Peace was established by a resolution of the UN General Assembly and calls for a full day of ceasefire and nonviolence. Within this context Mr. Parker coordinates a UN system-wide steering group with members from all UN bodies and assists governments and civil society in commemorating the Day. Prior to joining the Department of Political Affairs, he served as Secretary General of the Conference Secretariat for the Conference on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace on 22 June 2005 based in UNESCO Before formally joining the UN, Mr. Parker worked with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), serving as Representative to the UN for the World Peace Prayer Society (2000-2005) and with the Department of International and UN Affairs at the Interfaith Center of New York (1999-2001). He sits on numerous executive committees and is the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Status with the UN; Co-chair of the International Day of Peace NGO Committee; a Council member of the Spiritual Caucus at the UN; a Council member of the United Religions Initiative at the UN; Treasurer of the Committee of Religious NGOs at the UN; and Treasurer of the NGO Committee on Youth. Mr. Parker is also the Liaison to the UN for the World Council of Religious Leaders. Beyond UN related activities, Mr. Parker serves on the Boards of Directors of assorted non-profit organizations including the Earth Child Institute, Global Health Institute, Simply Living Well, and the Social Service Board. His background in strategic planning arose from playing competitive chess, which he first learned at the age of two, eventually becoming United States National, New York State, and New York City scholastic champion by age eight. He obtained his B.A. degree in Philosophy at Wesleyan University (Middletown, Connecticut, USA), was a Philosophy Affiliate at University College London (London, England), and will start Law School in fall 2005. Nickolai has traveled to 27 countries and remains a resident in his home town of Manhattan.

Nickolai Kipp Parker

Nickolai has worked with the World Peace Prayer Society since 2000, leading programs, workshops, festivals, world peace flag ceremonies, and peace pole dedications for people of all ages. Currently, he serves as the Representative to the United Nations for the World Peace Prayer Society. In 2002 he was on-assignment to work on the International Day of Peace in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs.

Mr. Parker currently serves on many Executive Boards, including:

Mr. Parker also served with the Interfaith Center of New York from 1999-2001 in the Department of International and UN Affairs, where he coordinated the World Movement for Nonviolence programs and events at United Nations headquarters, and created the Interfaith Youth Forum and Summit of Emerging Visionaries for the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders.

An educator at heart, Nickolai has taught chess to children ages four through fourteen at over 15 schools, both public and private, in New York City. As a scholastic chess competitor, he was a United States National Champion, New York State Champion, New York City Champion, and represented America during international tournaments in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

Nickolai received his B.A. in Philosophy from Wesleyan University (Connecticut), and was a Philosophy Affiliate at University College London (London, England). Nickolai is 29 years old and resides with his wife Caroline in New York City. He can be reached via email at nickolai@worldpeace.org.
