About Me |
Remzi Cej recently graduated with a B.A.Hon. in German and French Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Remzi has been an activist with Amnesty International Canada (English-Speaking Section) since 2001 and fieldworker since 2004. He served as Director of the Executive Committee for the Section during 2007 - 2008, and had to leave the position due to graduate studies overseas.
He was also a member of the Youth Advisory Board at War Child Canada from 2003 to 2005.
Remzi served on the executive board of directors of Community Youth Network from 2001 to 2005, an organization working in the policy development and advocacy for the well-being of youth-at-risk in the St.John's community.
Remzi also volunteered with the AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador. From 2005 to 2007, he was a member of the United Nations Association in Canada National Youth Team on HIV/AIDS, a group formed to develop new local, provincial, national and international strategies on HIV/AIDS education. He has, since, participated in the annual AIDS Walk and has been invited to speak at the fundraiser on occasion.
Since 2001, Remzi has volunteered and periodically worked with the Association for New Canadians, the local settlement agency. In 2004, he worked with the Refugee Immigrant Advisory Council. He was also the Volunteer Programs Coordinator for the Association for New Canadians.
Most recently, Remzi began a contract position with the Department of Justice, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, where he is currently conducting research on human rights legislation.
Currently, Remzi is working on a non-fiction work on the effects of war on youth. He is also a freelancer for CBC Radio. He is the recipient of the Newfoundland and Labrador 2008-2009 Rhodes Scholarship for graduate studies at the University of Oxford.
