PROJECT: EDUCATION TO THOSE WHO CAN'T AFFORD IT

After the Gujarat quake and post-Godhra riots, Shri Nand Education Trust was established by open and like minded individuals and founded an Eng/Guj Medium school, “Sandipani School” at Vejalpur, Ahmedabad. The sole aim of starting the school was adopting orphaned and destitute children who were victims of the earthquake and the riots later and imparting them free education and thus helping them to become better law abiding citizen.

The school was established in the year 2004. In the initial period, there was a vigorous campaign by the trust in the minority dominated areas such as Juhapara, and Sarkhej Roza.. The campaign was door to door emphasizing the need to get modern education to their wards apart from the orthodox education they have been receiving. A similar campaign was launched in the Dalit areas in Vejalpur. The trust could meet little success in the first year as only 10 such students enrolled.

In the second year, the strategy was changed and then the housewives were made the main target area.
It was firmly believed that a motivated housewife can further motivate an entire household. The efforts bore fruits and the school now has a sizeable 65 of them. Needless to say the expenditure incurred in the whole exercise was borne by the trustees themselves. The trust is headed by Mrs. Nayana Hitesh Trivedi.
As the no. of adopted children was less, they could manage the finances by themselves and their personal sources. Now that the strength has increased manifolds, the trust finds it extremely difficult to make both ends meet. The trust is also running the school from the rented accommodation paying Rs. 30,000 pm which is eating into funds.

The trust provides these children everything except the shelter. It takes care of their books, notebooks, stationary, school bags, water bottles etc. It even caters for their free travel from their homes to school and vice-a-versa. The trust does not have a school bus, yet it has employed private taxi operators for their commuting. This it self costs the school a great amount.

It may be noted that till date the trust has not received any grant either from the Govt. or any other organization. We therefore humbly request you to help us in our cause by whatever means, however smaller it may be. We will be highly obliged if you could facilitate a collaboration tie up with any corporate body.
