About Me

Vilma Lantigua is an intern with the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS, an alliance of young leaders and adult allies working on youth and HIV/AIDS in 150 countries worldwide.

Vilma graduated from Stony Brook University in August 2007 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology. During her undergraduate studies, Vilma performed research on effects of urban living on mental health and physical reactions, which led to the development of her thesis.

Vilma has also been involved in social work. She was an intern for the Westchester Department of Social Services for four years, where she served as a liaison between case workers and public assistance clients, among other duties. She was also an instructor for the Westchester One Stop Employment Center teaching resume writing classes to employment seekers.

Vilma became interested in international development & cooperation after being inspired by her sister's work in the area. She further became interested in HIV/AIDS through her work with the Department of Social Services, and her volunteering experiences with various organizations.
